On the left you can see Tiled with a poorly made map that I filled in just as an example. On the right is Unity with that map loaded. As of right now the tiles I have are just me scribbling in paint. I just needed something to work with while writing code. I assure the final tiles will look much better.
Next up is reworking the code to be easier to use and adding a few features. Things like multiple layers, transparency, layers above/below...etc. Then add a player, draw their sprite, tracking their location with server, tracking multiple users, movement, tracking movement with server and then drawing multiple smaller map chunks side by side when the player move to the edge of a map. Fun stuff.
The Story-
Don't panic, that doesn't mean just 5 areas to walk around, each area will be broken down into the various smaller areas we need.
We're throwing around ideas for the way we are going to link them all, I belieeeeve we have a tentative story set linking them all, just need to confirm if we have any other ideas to work in.
We're hoping to have some nice big twists and turns and exciting things happening, so hopefully that'll all work out.
Once we have this set we can have a look at specific ideas for ways to work in endgame content, I have a few ideas for how to fit it in so far so that you don't end up just sitting once you reach the 'end' of the story with nothing to do, but we'll see how it goes!

Art Contest:
Last week we had our first art contest. We had some great submissions and below here you see the ones we voted top three! Right now contest 2 has just finished. Stay tuned for next weeks contest and the announcement of this weeks winners. To see the leader board check ART CONTEST: Hall of Fame.
When I have some more time I will try to give some tips and tricks too. If you are interested in testing the new (idle) sprites, have a look here.

So, it looks like we are probably going to be working within a world that has 5 main areas.Don't panic, that doesn't mean just 5 areas to walk around, each area will be broken down into the various smaller areas we need.

It has been a slow week for me. I have an exhibition next week so I was busy preparing for that. I am still working on the sideviews. A preview here, still work in progress.Art Contest:

This week we mostly focused on gathering up a large list of possible skills to implement in the game. This includes both combat and noncombat skills. None of these are finalized yet, right now it's in the "gathering ideas" stage, and now we are starting to debate which ones would be viable to implement.
We also decided on some things like item classifications and equipment slots. From what we have so far, there will be 11 equipment slots in total, which will be the following:
So far it looks like we will be using an active time battle system, which involves the use of abilities during combat, think along the lines of World of Warcraft, which is a classic example of an active time battle system. I'll give a general overview of the class system we came up with next week, it probably isn't what you are expecting, so stay tuned!
Lastly, I just want to reiterate that we love your suggestions. Even if I don't post on them, I look at every single one, and if I see something good, there's a high chance of it going in game, so keep posting!
