Week 3: Da Code
This week will be a short entry. I am pretty busy right now but I am still committed to give an update on Sundays. And anyways, wouldn't you rather see me busy writing code?
Sick and Tired
I don't know about anyone else, but I was pretty sick last week and heading into a few days this week. Missed work, slept a bunch and now here I am playing catch-up. I did get some time programming. Rebuilt our code repository and finally started writing code. It feels good to start writing code. I created a simple in game login page and registration page. It is ugly as all heck, but this was more of a "get it working" kind of thing. We can skin it later. I have Unity connecting to a game server and the server is responding to requests which is good. Now I am getting one or two of the staff off of other things to help work out a good user interface. It's nice to see something actually being made.
The team
Talks are starting to slow down. This can be expected though as something is being formed. This isn't the wild west anymore with random ideas flying around like bullets. I am trying to organize the troops. Get the staff into groups that can focus and work together on more specific tasks. I would like all the staff that want to contribute to feel like they can contribute and give something that they own. To me, this is the key to collaboration.
Ari
I would also like to congratulate Ari. Her and I have been talking and I have decided to give her a title of "Community Manager". For now this means that she will be answering threads in the question and answer forums and offering support when I can't be around. As I get more busy with development, I'll likely be around less and less due to programming related tasks taking up my time. As more and more of the staff fall into a role, they too will get custom titles.
Donations
Just a reminder, we are accepting donations. 100% of which go towards development. I actually made the first community funded purchase this week and it was VERY much appreciated.
Back to work I go...
