How about 3 different types of currency? -----------------------------------------
Currencies: Gold, Tokens, Crystals -----------------------------------------------------------
Gold
How to obtain: Quest rewards, killing mobs, trading/ selling items
Used for: Buying standard equipment from "Gold shop". Example: recipes for crafting, standard outfits, teleportation scrolls (limited usage),... ------------------------------------------------------------
Tokens***
How to obtain: Weekly by doing -> an amount of daily quests, killing specific mobs, social interaction with other players (pvp, trading?,..)
Used for: special items from the "Token shop". Example: 5-10% exp boost potions, 2% luck potions, furniture*, mystery boxes**, teleportation scrolls (limited usage),... ------------------------------------------------------------
Crystals***
How to obtain: Buy them for real money, mystery boxes**
Used for: Buying premium items from the "Crystal shop". Example: buying pets, upgrading house/buying furniture*, buying (custom?)outfits/avatars, 15-25% exp boost potions, 5% luck potions, teleportation spells (unlimited usage), random premium outfit/item boxes ---------------------------------------------------------------------
*Housing system If a housing system is included players can buy standard furniture for tokens and premium furniture for crystals. The housing area is limited and can be upgraded with crystals.
**Mystery boxes Contain certain random items from the Gold shop/ Token shop and maybe crystals. different tiers I, II and III. Higher tier boxes have a greater chance of containing better items. Example: Box Tier I has a 5% chance of containing a 4 crystals, Box tier III has a 20% chance of containing 4 crystals Higher tier boxes cost more tokens.
***Token and Crystal items Crystals and tokens are NOT tradable. Items obtained this way are NOT tradable (there may be some exeptions such as potions...).
It took me a awhile to think about this ~_~ I'll update it if you guys want. I need sleep. Good night.

I wouldn't play if this was implemented
Reasons
You basically made it that you have to pay money for premium goods. Now let's delve into that. I totally understand, but I'm gonna pass on paying for an online game. Reasons? Did you see FO end and the uproar. Also did you see how many people complained and wanted their money back. Additionally the stability issue. FO looked really stable too, but guess what. It died. Money wasted. You think people want to throw away there money after they saw what happened to FO just for items that will be improved in the near future?
Player Gap... There will be a gap between premium players and players who are just buying with gold. Yes there was a gap in FO, but premium currency was obtainable through the player market and gold. That gap will make people quit, want to quit or not play. Because no one really wants to party with the crappy gear kids, when they can save time and money and group with premium kids.
Housing: Is this club penguin. I mean really. Really. Let's decorate! Because the first thing I want to do is buy furniture that I can never use. 'But you can have a cool house' Really though... that is like club penguin.
Non Tradable Issue. Non Tradable is good for some things, but if you want to give your lesser premium gear to a friend, why the hell not? What are you supposed to do with your old outdated premium gear? Let it rot?
Mystery boxes. So dude, you can get 4 whole crystals? Gee whiz! Why didn't I see that before, that ends ALL problems. Oh did I forget to mention that it was just a slim chance. And that you may end up with gold shop items, making all your hard work go down the drain? I get that we had that in FO with boxes, but again you at least got something that you could trade away or sell. This doesn't appear to.
Tokens issue. Some people don't want to talk to you, or prefer to save their quests until the end, and hate PVP (because really button mashing is the opposite of fun). I can also see people creating alts (I know llama and co. said that this wouldn't happen, but did you see GW?) and trading to get tokens to game the system to get mystery boxes to then get the chance at crystals without paying (which would defeat the whole purpose)
More crystal rbbl.
Pets and Housing: Say it once and I'll say it again... CLUB PENGUIN ARE YOU KIDDING ME????
Outfits and avatars. Um yeah, maybe that could work but still, that's a lot for a custom outfit. Did you use SSC's on FO? You had to buy 5 $52 gempacks and with that you got a buttload of gems and some gear. Or buy rights for like 50mil. Which wasn't too bad. But then you find a maker. Depending on the price you will swamp artists, because believe it or not they have lives too! OMG SHOCK. So then you have to price it high enough where it's exclusive but just for an outfit it's not worth it.
Potions and crap. I guarantee you that no one will be paying real money for just %25. Or if they do they are really, really dumb. And a 5% luck potion. I doubt 5% will make a difference. And what will it give you too? More gold? Gold that you can only buy standard to lesser stuff with?
Lastly I say standard to lesser, because if it was equally as good people wouldn't be spending real money on it. So you need to make people want to spend money. But people get bored with the same stuff so you have to upgrade it... making people angry sometimes because they just bought x and y came out and is better! Or like I already said, player gap.
Again, there are some flaws in my argument, but frankly I think it's pretty damn solid why this should never ever happen.
But if it does happen, hey at least you got rid of Ash

My first thought reading this was: Oh god what have I done =O ?! >_</
This was only an idea and I agree that how it is... it looks its crab. On the other hand there MUST be a payment system with real money. The game would not last very long without one. I loved and hated the Gem system in FO... you had to buy game relevant items with gems. On the other hand you could get gems for a ton of gold or in the daily reward. My thought was to only include optical items (okay no pots) for the premium currency.

Premium currency will likely be a thing, but we'll wait and define exactly how it will be used when we have more of the game set out. For example, it would be silly if we were like oh yeah, premium currency will be for enchanting items. Then enchanting items doesn't become a thing ingame. Game mechanics first, then currency Personally I would also rather keep it to two types of currency, I get confused so easily and multiple currencies annoys me (but that's just me).

Premium currency is absolutely fine when it is a) for things that don't really affect game-play like vanity items, and b) obtainable by the common player through hard work, player market, logging in often, etc. This video about game monetization is awesome, and I can't stress enough how important some of his points are: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXA559KNopI

Pretty nice suggestion, but no trading ''crystals'' is really bad, many users just bought gems to earn faster coins. A housing system would also be nice (hate looking for stuff so dont say why didnt i check if it existed -_-)
