Sorry in advance if something like this has already been posted before, I haven't been on the forum for a few weeks.
Anyways, it'd be cool to have NPC factions for players to join for more quests, specific gear, etc. FO scratched the surface with the idea, but I think it never really reached its full potential: everything watered down to a grindy item collection with almost zero interaction with any NPC member of a faction. What I'm suggesting is different groups throughout the game offering unique quest lines and gear/outfits. As a player progresses with the main story, the storyline of the faction would run parallel with it.
Limiting a player to only one or two factions would also encourage him/her to create multiple characters to explore different paths, which could extend the time the player plays the game, and might even encourage him/her to buy more exclusive currency for multiple characters. Factions could also be expanded to include special PVP events with rival factions, and act as a semi-guild with its own chat. Higher ranking members in a faction would have no power over lower ranking members of course (a player's rank within a faction could go up by the number of faction quests he/she has done), but the faction would expand on the social aspect of the game and possibly introduce any new member to people he/she might have never met otherwise.
Welp, that's my two crabs, or however that phrase goes
