I was thinking that maybe in this game, your pets would not only heal you, or give you more attack power (if they're even going to do that, hehe), some of them could even deal damage directly to the enemy. Say you were fighting Evil McFreezeGuy, and you were doing fine on kiting, you were taking no damage, but your damage output was severely lacking to kill him in the next decade. Nobody was around to help. Just you and your little useless Heal lv. 1 pet. In this game though, maybe your pet can deal damage directly. Maybe it's a calculated number, based on your current strength stat or something. Your strength is 100, so your pet deals 250 damage every... I dunno... 5 seconds. Not too OP, nor entirely too weak. So instead of killing McFreezeGuy in 15 years, kill him in just 5 :D I had another idea while writing that XD. Anyways, maybe there could be special pet-special/ pet-bound items JUST FOR YOUR PET. Like, you can get collars that increase certain stats, or cash gain from killing/looting enemies. Maybe you can get little clothes and customize your pet :3. Be a crap load of work, but eyyyyy, it'd be worth it :3 To me anyways... :D Hope erry'one enjoyed this hehe, and good luck with le game :3

Pets are indeed a great idea. However the extent of their skills and abilities may be another issue we should examine before hastily jumping to the suggestion. The general thought of having pets attack monsters as a damage boost derived from the players stats through a formula is a little under thought. Your idea is mixing a class system with lets say wolves from minecraft. Wolves are tamed from the wilderness and designated to defend the owner. What we fail to recognize is that every player in minecraft lives on the same base. This new game Llama is working on is an MMORPG which incorporates different classes and roles. Giving healers pets that directly deal damage (after a sufficient amount of healing is achieved for the current task) just makes fights easier. I personally believe this is a game where player's actions should determine the outcome of a fight and not the additional dps boost of an npc.
I am in no way against the idea though. I just think it should be carefully selected versus handing every player a pet. We can look at world of warcraft for example:
The role of the hunter (class similar to FO's agility class with a ranged weapon, if the high dodge bonus is subtracted) is mainly damage. The pet supports the hunters weak defense by having monsters attack it instead of the owner. In a PvP situation, certain pets are selected due to their active abilities used at the control of the player. A quick example of this is the Spider pet which has a web ability. Web ensnares a target for 5 seconds (if not dispelled by a healer). This ability allows hunters to remain a safe distance away from the target.
However hunters are not the only class to have pets. Both Warlocks and Mages have a pet. To quickly summarize the mages pet: the water elemental has a 5 second freeze ability similar to the spider's web. However the warlock adepts the pets in a more unique way. The warlock instead has 5 (I believe 7 now but the other 2 are not worth discussing) summonable pets which are deployed after a short casting delay. The warlock has a pet for the following situations: Damage against melee characters, damage against opposing casters, shielding damage, tanking mobs, crowd control. The warlock has a pet similar to the mage's water elemental but instead this ability is a stun compared to a snare. The warlock also has a few damage dealing pets. These all balance the fact the classes lack of a sufficient defense to deal with a heavy amount of damage. Instead the class is made viable through its own heavy damage.
Viewing this suggestion from a PvP standpoint, we might be seeing fights such as a tank vs a healer where the healer out heals the damage from the tank and allows his pet to deal the damage thus killing the tank. Great idea. I would like to see a more indepth suggestion to this. However many of our suggestions are becoming null and void due to Llama's plans for the game which are not fully disclosed at this time. We are able to scrape together pieces dropped off by Llama in many posts such as his recent intentions for skill trees in another suggestion post. It will be interesting to see if this is implemented and to what extent.

Just going to throw it out there that practically, battle-pets are going to be difficult to code. This means that they will come farther down the line if they come at all.
I would love some sort of pets system that involves collecting pets, leveling up your pets, equipping them, etc., but I don't know as it has to relate to PvM or PvP fighting in more than a small way. Sure it would be neat to be able to have pets attack with you, but the pet giving an additional buff of some sort, or aiding in another minor way, or even just being cosmetic seems viable to me as well.

If pets go in game, then they should level also. So you have 1 pet you choose and level it up through game, if you choose a different pet mid game its level starts at 1. (Gem sink could be keep level and swap pet?) Like watching your pet "grow" and yeah sure cloth it etc etc.
