well tbh it's a pretty 'generic' system. I think we chose it because it's easily recognisable and allows a lot of customisation as well fire damage, earth is defense, water heals and air is everywhere thanks for all the suggestions and support! I think this a great idea and allows a lot of flexibility in the play style. It is pretty common, I believe there was a TV show about the elements that was canceled a while back. I just realized that you could really emphasize on the roles with the elements. Fire could easily be turned into DoT's (damage over time), earth seems tanky and may allow for some small self heals and defense boosts, water could also incorporate the use of ice and allow for some escapes for healers, while air could offer speed boosts and "teleportation"-like abilities used to create a gap. I don't know how the graphics are going to be but that would be awesome if you guys really opened up the elements. I believe it would make a great addition to the combat system. This is probably already suggested (or being implemented) though. All praise the creation team!

No problem, glad you enjoyed my "generic" suggestion. I personally thought it would help make the game unique and exciting :/

Yeah we decided on elements since January, but it's a common system and easy to see generic-ness (is that a word?) in it. I guess great minds think alike ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Nothing has been guaranteed on how many elements or what types of elements yet though. It's probably going to be open quests for everyone but if you have the right element you get bonuses or something similar. Like many other things, we don't have that aspect 100% planned out. A mix of the two probably. Certain requirements will likely have to met for going onto other areas or at the very least unlocking the full benefits of those areas. @fred: Finally someone interested in lore! Elemental power is what caused the player to become an adventurer for the most part. Most NPCs are not infused with elemental magic but some are - depends on the NPC. Acquisition of elemental power will be explained in the storyline but it's a rare thing that most people of the game world don't have. Monsters in an area heavily affected by elemental magic (such as a fire dragon at a volcano or something) will have elemental power and combat with those monsters will be harder to illustrate that point. The cultural part is what I really want to expand on. Different elements have different beliefs and lifestyles pertaining to their peoples; these are fundamental for establishing conflict and relations between the areas. We have a huge thread on this but it's probably too early to spill the beans yet. I'd say it's not genetic but more of a choice as to what element you choose; remember that most people don't have elemental power so an entire family of water-infused folks would be quite rare. I hope to post the huge wall of text we wrote up possibly in the nexf dev blog to give you an understanding of cultural/geographical/political differences between elements and their cultures.

mvp it's probably Avatar: The Last Air Bender. Really hoping what Vand was thinking, an Alpha being released in the next month or two. I like the progress and pace at which development is going, keep it up!

Glad you replied with such detail, thought I got ignored for a minute because I didn't see a notification for a quote or anything Do you think a player's selection would effect where he/she starts the game? Like fire players starting in fire land, etc. I think it would be a great way to introduce specific lore to characters that selected a coinciding element; As in 'Fire lore A' is generally common knowledge, but you would only know 'Fire lore B' if you started out as a fire player yourself. I know it would encourage at least me to spread out my characters and element selection to find out as much as I can, and if element has anything to do with class/combat role would also increase my overall experience with the game's character mechanics as well. And do you also see this as possibly the go-to option for introducing any kind of faction-based PvP system?

This is all I want right here. *squee* if I become a "water-infused" I want an otter costume! I mean--*cough* Question Bam, would there be just the 4 basics? Or are you guys having more than just fire, water, earth, and air? Maybe having other elements, such as Joseph mentioned like light and dark etc. Also, would the world contain "hybrids"? Say snow/ice would be a mixture between water and air, stone a mixture of earth and fire...stuff like that. Of course if you all have had this pretty much planned out since January then you guys are all set, eh? ;p

So LlamaQuest's gonna have elements? I call dibs on my character having chlorine-associated abilities. Wait, you don't mean it like that? Hm… No, wait, nevermind, that's probably not it… In all seriousness, though, everything looks awesome. Keep up the good work!

Week 13 - PC says there are only 5 areas. Does that mean there are only five elements? Week 20 - Storyline revealed. Does this all fit into the storyline? rockybalboa75 They are not recreating FO. It's not supposed to be another FO. I hope the cultures will a lil' bit resemble real-world cultures, like greek architecture in water-like areas, or egyptian in firey ones.
