Just throwing this out there, but what about a weekly skill rotation? Almost like LoL's champion rotation, you have about 5 skills on rotation that you automatically have leveled up. The level would have to be based on a total level algorithm. Have a guy allow you to buy them for an understandable price to add a little money sink. This way you don't destroy the economy by allowing everybody to mine one week and craft items the next. This would be for the people who truly want to try out a skill.
Another suggestion, branching off the premium idea is a temporary slot that can permanently hold a skill but it will cost money to swap it back into your active skills. Once again, another money sink so you do not have players going back and forth.
I'm going to throw this out and there and say that everybody is going to have trouble learning all these new skills and will it will take time to find out what works with what. Experiment. Create a lot of new characters and try out different things. Keep in mind that skills at level 1 will not function the same at level 100.
Hopefully I will make some guides and get everybody attuned to what they should do based on their playstyle.

That's the idea. It should be a fun experience trying out new skills. I don't mind a premium slot that costs to swap, pretty much the same idea with a few tweaks and in my method it expires and doesn't cost to get the skill out of hock. IMHO the skill in the slot needs to not be useable because the number of slots you have will make a big difference. It really just means they can do a lot more than you can. I would rather not allow someone to pay to get that kind of advantage when 1 slot means so much. Which is why I was thinking it would be temporary.
We also thought about having something like when you trade a skill out of a slot, you forget the slowly over time (or in direct relation to as the new skill levels up the old skill loses the amount of exp the new skill gets). This is a little less of a hard blow than just losing everything, but still might work. I think that this could be gamed though and so opted for a more direct "you just forgot this" method which is the easy way out when it comes to programming.

I really like that there were no classes, as in Fantasy Online. If you remember, I never wanted to be asked what kind, because the later you've started. I like that we cede the ability to create our own class as in the previous game, and we can combine the items for each of the classes as we were doing before. This makes the game fun and combine the items you need to achieve what you want.
