Don't remove the cats. I loved watching some level 29 NRB who thought he was Jesus attack it only to complain about how it was too hard to kill.

As the developers/mods/whatevers have said, this is a new game. There might be cats, there might not be, but whatever there is, it's there.

Lets just say, there will definitely be a OP boss of some sort. I will make sure it happens.
What's a game without a challenge? If bosses were easy they wouldn't be bosses. The harder the boss, the greater the feeling of exhilaration when you finally manage to topple it. There's nothing quite like that sense of achievement. And the sense of achievement is 75% of what an MMORPG is about, and what keeps players coming back.

I agree. While not necessarily a cat that wanders the town, there will be some sort of OP boss that maybe takes a few people to team together to beat. It adds fun to the game. I think my personal biggest problem with the cat(s) was the same problem with all/most bosses. Defense didn't mean a thing and so all that could be done is increase health, again and again.

I think my personal biggest problem with the cat(s) was the same problem with all/most bosses. Defense didn't mean a thing and so all that could be done is increase health, again and again. Boss encounters were the sum of inanimate combat. With disregard to vivified combat, the game implemented a "attack and afk" strategy which paralleled the widely abused and common practice run and attack methods. Healers were generally unneeded as single attacks from the "OP" boss in question were too powerful to withstand and thus cause the collapse of a team. While a defense injected into the bosses to increase difficulty would in short term solve the issue, ideally, you are just compressing as much capability as you can into signed data limits. What I mean by this: If you have a boss with 1000 hp and you always hit 100, it will take 10 hits to kill the boss. If you add defense to the boss, and you only hit 50, the boss essentially has 2000 hp as it would take 20 hits to kill the boss thus multiplying its health and resulting in a longer fight. Is it fun? Depends what you mean by fun. Is it difficult? Sure, this does widen difficulty of boss fights. By all means, this is a probable solution. I would personally favor scripted bosses which required actual interaction. However, I will not mind going to make a sandwich while another user tricks the combat system by circling the boss. For the record, I do not actually believe this game will have a remotely similar combat concept as FO. This was just an example.

How about we add a cat that has only 9 hp and massive attack power, but so much defense that you can't hurt it. Then with each time it attacks it loses 1 hp (maybe as a result of using the attack it lashes back). Then you just need to find a way to survive 9 attacks from the cat, each harder and harder. At least something like this is different. And if the attack speed is slow you can re-buff to get ready for the next attack.
And I agree, scripted npcs would be funner. I'll need to see what I can do given the time I have to work on it. But really it might just be pick one of 3 random attacks or cycle through attack 1, 2, 3, repeat as that is easy.

additionally you can add a special class that has lower damage but is good at breaking defense, or has some attacks that go through physical defenses. along with this, give some mobs high physical defenses. this will introduce more variety in the classes in the game.

talking of defenses etc if armour has to be mended after x amount of hits, then so could the bosses, ie their amour will weaken. Just a thought I love diversity.

If the bosses armor weakened, would it reset after they die? I'm assuming that, aside from debuffs, armor taking damage and needing repair wouldn't be the result from one battle, boss or not.
